Third Eye Chakra: Reclaiming Intuition, Inner Vision, and Trusting Yourself Again
Have you ever felt like you knew something deep down—but talked yourself out of it?
Maybe you sensed a relationship wasn’t safe… or felt something was off long before you could explain why.
For many trauma survivors, especially those who were gaslit or dismissed, intuition becomes foggy. You may feel cut off from your inner knowing, unsure what’s “real,” or afraid to trust your gut.
This post is about the Third Eye Chakra—your center of clarity, insight, and inner guidance. Let’s gently explore how trauma clouds this energy center and how you can begin reconnecting with the part of you that always knew the truth.
What Is the Third Eye Chakra?
Sanskrit Name: Ajna (meaning “perceive” or “command”)
Location: Center of the forehead, between the eyebrows
Element: Light
Color: Indigo
Primary Themes: Intuition, inner vision, perception, imagination, clarity
Physical associations: Pineal gland, brain, eyes, forehead, sinuses
The third eye chakra governs our ability to “see”—not just with our physical eyes, but with our insight. It helps us make decisions aligned with our inner wisdom, interpret dreams or symbolic messages, and discern truth from illusion.
When balanced, this chakra gives us clarity, vision, and trust in our own perception.
How Trauma Affects the Third Eye Chakra
For those who’ve experienced gaslighting, religious trauma, emotional abuse, or childhood invalidation, the third eye is often one of the most blocked chakras.
When our reality is denied or distorted by others, it teaches us to doubt our own inner voice. Over time, this leads to confusion, indecision, and even disassociation from our own thoughts and feelings.
Signs of third eye imbalance may include:
Difficulty trusting yourself or your decisions
Brain fog, trouble concentrating, or forgetfulness
Disconnection from dreams or imagination
Constant second-guessing or looking to others for answers
Feeling “out of touch” with your inner world
Headaches, eye strain, or sinus pressure
Fear of seeing the truth—especially if it’s painful
A Trauma-Informed Lens: You Didn't Imagine It
One of the hardest parts of trauma—especially emotional or spiritual abuse—is being made to feel like you’re imagining things. Over time, you may have stopped trusting yourself altogether.
But here’s the truth:
Your body knew.
Your heart knew.
Your intuition never stopped speaking—it just got buried beneath survival strategies.
Reconnecting with your third eye is not about being psychic or “woo.”
It’s about remembering that you are the expert of your own experience.
Gentle Ways to Rebalance the Third Eye Chakra
Healing the third eye isn’t about finding certainty—it’s about restoring self-trust and gently tuning in.
Here are a few practices to support this process:
1. Start With Body-Based Intuition
Ask: “How does this feel in my body?”
Track sensations like tightness, ease, tension, or warmth
Let your body offer data—even before the mind has a narrative
2. Practice Intuitive Play
Pull a card, journal, or interpret a dream
Notice synchronicities or repeating patterns
Let go of needing it to “mean” something right away—just observe
3. Try a Mini Discernment Ritual
Light a candle and place your hand on your forehead
Ask yourself a yes/no question and notice the felt response
Use this with compassion—not as pressure to get things “right”
4. Energy-Based Tools
Sound Healing with bowls or chimes in the A note (third eye frequency)
Reiki focused on the forehead, temples, and scalp
